What Dreams May Come by Richard Matheson

This book and movie has influenced my view of heaven and hell. Let's see, the story tells me that people, who died, could accept the fact that there is a afterlife and that they still exist, they could enter heaven.
In Catholic / Christian beliefs, if you commit suicide, you would be condemned to go to hell for an eternity.
In the book, a character, Anne, killed herself and ended up in hell. Her husband, Chris, decided to leave heaven to help Anne understand that she's not alive any more, convince her that there is an after life. When none of his methods to make her realize what she has done, he decided to join her in hell. " Heaven isn't heaven without you"
Only when Chris joined Anne in hell, was when he finally got through to her. Chris then became stiff and woke up in heaven. Surprised to see his beloved wife along with their 2 children and dog there as well.

So you would only go into hell if you killed yourself or don't acknowledge that you still exist. If you killed yourself, you'll have to stay in hell till it's your original day to die, only then would you be able to enter heaven. For acknowledging that you still exist, there would be trackers to help you with that.
It has a much nicer ring to it than an eternity in hell, no?
